Mary Cody , Early Morning DeeJay

Hi, I am Mary Cody your early morning deejay on WJIA. I have had the honor of working at Lake City Assembly of God and WJIA since 1996.

I was raised in Floyd, Virginia by my grandparents and attended New River Community College in Dublin, Virginia and Roanoke College in Salem, Virginia. I studied Psychology in college and almost got my degree, but then I took a different path. My grandparents had raised me to love the Lord, but I decided to look to the world as my source. Hebrews 11:25 talks about the pleasure of sin for a season. At age 21 I began bartending and using drugs. I really thought I had a great life, but as the years went along, I began to realize that I was missing something. I felt empty, alone and did not know the direction of my life. I moved to Dallas, Texas then back to Roanoke, Virginia then to Phoenix, Arizona, Nashville, Tennessee, then to Paducah, Kentucky and finally to Alabama.

It was in Paducah that I finally gave my heart to the Lord. God quickly began to work in my life and after moving to Guntersville, I was blessed to find Lake City Assembly God. I began to grow in my newfound relationship with Christ.

I became the church secretary in May of 1996 (remember, I was a bartender - 2 Corinthians 5:17: Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!). Pastor Broadus then encouraged me to become an announcer on WJIA. After much hesitation and “fear,” in November 1996 I started introducing songs and reading scripture on the radio. I will never forget how amazed I was that God had taken me, a small town girl previously lost in a world of sin, to this place of being able to tell people about His grace, mercy and love. I am still amazed, even after all this time, that I am part of such a great ministry. I also have the privilege of being a volunteer at Real Life Crisis Pregnancy Center in Albertville where I lead SaveOne, Abortion Recovery Bible Studies.

WJIA is a blessing to me in so many ways. I love hearing how a song or teaching spot has ministered to a listener. I love walking into a place of business or getting into a friend’s car and hearing WJIA on the radio. I’ve prayed, worshiped, cried, laughed and made many wonderful friends through these years at WJIA. Thank you for listening and supporting WJIA - Where Jesus Is ALIVE! Ps 40:1-3 I waited patiently for the LORD; he turned to me and heard my cry. 2 He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. 3 He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear and put their trust in the LORD. (from New International Version)
